AI as a force for good
Very few changes are universally good, or universally bad.
Being uncomfortable with change is good.
It tells we need to fully understand the nature of that change and it's potential consequences, and have a plan to manage it.
But change should not be stopped simply because we are uncomfortable with it, not can it be.
Discussing her pioneering work on radiation, the scientist Marie Curie said that "Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less."
At what may well be the greatest inflection point in human history, she has never been more right.
That's why I'm honoured to be one of the 1,300 signatories to this letter highlighting the benefits of responsible artificial intelligence.
It's rational to be concerned about AI, but we need to see the opportunity, too.
